The large glass windows of Hakiki display the pots used for making Turkish ice cream by hand. Husband and wife Nev and Zeyneb Bagriyanik make everything themselves; baklava,Turkish delight (pistachio, hazelnut, rose, molasses), cookies, sweets and ice cream.
DISHING up the kind of classic Turkish flavours you’d find on the streets of Istanbul, Hakiki in Newtown is Sydney’s latest cult ice cream spot. Opening just two weeks ago, patisserie Hakiki offers homemade ice cream and baklava, Turkish delights, coffee, tea and pomegranate and sour cherry juice. Owner Nev Bagriyanik grew up in Turkey and hand churns the ice cream every day, while his pastry chef wife, Zeyneb, makes the baklava.
